Robert Simonson stopped by Copper & Kings Distillery to chat with us in Louisville, KY about his new book A Proper Drink. Books and cocktails? I’m there.
Most interesting tidbit? Simonson says the old-fashioned is the most ordered drink in the U.S. followed by the Moscow Mule. No info on where Redbull and vodka falls on that list… 😉
Simonson traveled the world researching the history of craft cocktail culture. I didn’t pick up a copy of the book because I have about five books I’ve recently bought and need to read. But if you’re into cocktail culture it seems like a good one to pick up.
Copper & Kings bartenders always mix up cocktails you can’t resist. I wish I could remember the name of the one I ordered. The Beachcomber…? I dunno. It had gin and a lime and some other stuff I like in it.
Angel’s Envy was also in the house giving out shots of their rye and their whiskey. I took a shot of the whiskey. It was smooth and sweet. I can’t wait to get over there for a tour.
I’ll be returning to Copper & Kings next week for their event honoring Tom Bullock, the first Black bartender to write a book, The Ideal Bartender. The book celebrates it’s 100th anniversary this year and Bullock was a Louisville native.
